KINDERGARTEN REMINDER! On the morning of Monday, August 26 please continue to drop off your child between 7:30 and 7:45 at the JAG doors. Parents are invited at 8:20 am for a brief Kindergarten Orientation, to find out who each child’s teacher is. Orientation will be held in your child’s new classroom and will give parents the opportunity to meet their child’s teacher, go over important information, and to answer any questions you may have. We will offer an additional orientation time at 3:00 pm for any parents that are unable to make the morning session. You will not need to attend more than one session of orientation, so please choose the orientation time that works best for your schedule. We look forward to a great Kindergarten year! Thank you, JEC Kindergarten Staff

Good evening, Jefferson families, and welcome back! This is Mrs. Lowers, Principal, of Jefferson Elementary Center. We hope you were able to attend the open house last night and meet your child’s teacher. If not, here’s some important information for you. The doors will open at 7:30 a.m., and drop-off will begin at that time. Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 should be dropped off at Door 3, also known as the Jag doors, which are easily identifiable by the large red and white jaguar printed on the sidewalk on the Plum Street side. Our staff will be on hand to help unload students and escort them into the building. Students in Grades 2-5 should be dropped off at Door 1 in the main horseshoe. Please make sure your child is ready to exit the car as you enter the drive to avoid traffic backups on Plum Street. All goodbyes, kisses, and high-fives should happen before you enter the horseshoe to keep things moving smoothly. Once inside, students will be guided to the gyms to prepare for dismissal to their classes. Kindergarten through Grade 1 students will have breakfast in their classrooms, while Grades 2-5 will be escorted to the cafeteria for breakfast. Breakfast is free of charge for all students. Dismissal for Grades K-1 will begin at 2:50 p.m., with pickups at Door 3. We appreciate your patience as we work to match students with their families. Grades 2-5 will dismiss from the front area, with each grade using a different door. Grade 2 will dismiss from Door 34, Grade 3 from Door 33, Grade 4 from Door 30, and Grade 5 from Door 1. To accommodate families with students in multiple grades, we’ve staggered the dismissal times—Grades K-1 will dismiss at 2:50 p.m., and Grades 2-5 will dismiss at 2:55 p.m. Here’s how you can help our staff: First, make sure your child is ready to exit the car when you pull up to drop off. We’ll be unloading 3-4 cars at a time in the horseshoe, so keeping traffic flowing is essential. Also, please ensure your child’s teacher knows how your student will be getting home. If you haven’t informed them yet, contact the school so we can ensure a smooth dismissal process. With around 500 students to reunite with families or place on buses, your patience is greatly appreciated as we work to ensure everyone is dismissed safely and in an orderly manner. We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. The adventure awaits- and we have a SPOT for you!

Upcoming 5th grade GIRLS: Vandy will host our first volleyball clinic of the 2024-2025 season, for incoming 6th graders and our upcoming 7th and 8th graders. This is not mandatory but it is highly suggested that you attend if you can! You must have a valid physical to participate. Girls are expected to wear appropriate attire and have proper equipment (athletic clothing, tennis shoes, knee pads, and a water bottle). Please make sure you have transportation to and from practice daily. We plan to be respectful of your time and have the girls complete practice right at 10:30. Please be respectful of the coaches time and be ready to pick up girls at the end of practice. If you are interested in playing and do not have a physical, there are flyers attached about upcoming physical clinics. Coplin offers FREE physicals from May 1-June 15 at any local Coplin Site and WV Medicine offers them on June 8th. The cost is $5. If you have any questions, please reach out to Vandy and ask to speak to Mrs. Loyd or Ms. Walker! We cannot wait to get started and have fun practicing for our upcoming season!

This program provides free meals for children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months, helping to bridge the nutrition gap that often occurs when school meals are not available. By participating in this program, you can help support the health and well-being of children in your community, ensuring they have the fuel they need to thrive and enjoy their summer activities to the fullest.
