Van Devender Middle School will be unable to field a wrestling team this school year due to the last minute resignation of our coach and limited interest in the wrestling program. WVSSAC rules will allow interested/academically eligible students to participate in wrestling at a different school but the school must be a feeder school to Parkersburg High School (Hamilton Middle School or Jackson Middle School). Interested players need to contact Mr. Echard to determine if they are academically eligible to play as soon as possible.
The mobile dental clinic will be held February 23rd and 24th. These services are offered for any student who has not seen a dental care provider in the past 12 months. If your child is currently remote or distance learning, they are still eligible for the clinic. You would have to provide your own transportation to this clinic. Club Vandy will start on February 1, 2021. Packets are located around the school and in the office. Please have all paperwork filled out prior to the first day! If you plan to ride the bus to the Boys and Girls Club after Club Vandy, paperwork must be filled out or you will not be permitted to do so. Packets can be turned into the Office when they are completed.
This is a reminder about our electronic device policy. Personal Cell phones, Smart Watches and other electronic devices will not be allowed during the school day (This includes lunch). Progressive discipline is as follows:
First Offense: Student will be asked to place the electronic device in their locker.
Second Offense: The electronic device will be sent to the office until the end of the day. Student can pick the item up from the office at the end of the day.
Third Offense: The electronic device will go to the office and will remain in the office until a guardian comes to the school to pick it up.

It has been a very exciting couple of days having students back in the school. We are happy to be able to work with students face to face once again. I want to send out a couple of reminders as it is very important that safety procedures are followed in order for us to continue to have in person instruction. Please contact the school should you have any questions.
Please practice proper mask wearing. The mask needs to cover the mouth and nose in the classroom and the hallways. These expectations are to be followed by both students and staff. Proper mask wearing is our best defense to prevent the spread.
Wash your hands, use hand sanitizer and wipe down your desks with disinfectant wipes routinely throughout the day.
Bring a water bottle to school. Our water fountains are not able to be used but we do have water bottle refill stations placed throughout the school. We no longer have water bottles available to give to students at this time.
Attention Club Vandy Families: Due to a COVID exposure at the Boys and Girls Club, Club Vandy will not start next week as planned. The Boys and Girls Club is currently closed, and the staff are in quarantine. More information will be provided at a later date about when Club Vandy will start up. According to the WVDHHR map released at 10:00 a.m. today, all students in Wood County Schools, including students in High School, with last names L-Z will resume in-person instruction and learning tomorrow, Tuesday, January 19. More communication will be sent this evening. Enjoy the Holiday.
Club Vandy will start on January 25, 2021. Each day different clubs will be offered to the students. After school is dismissed, students who are participating in Club Vandy will report to the cafeteria. A snack will be provided before breaking out into our different clubs. A bus will come to the school at approximately 4:15PM and the students can be transported to the boys and girls club only if pre-registered on the Activity Registration Form. If you do not wish to have your student go to the Boys and Girls Club, you can pick up your student at that time or your student can walk home. Enrollment forms can be located in the office. Forms must be filled out in order to participate in Club Vandy. Please return the enrollment forms by January 21, 2021 to the Office. Please fill out the attached form to select your first choice on each day you would like to attend. This club is not guaranteed but will give us an idea of what students are wanting to attend and how many. Good Evening. This is a reminder that students with last names L-Z will attend school in-person beginning Tuesday, January 19. We will be utilizing a very similar blended learning format as we did 1st semester.
