Mrs. King’s third grade and Mrs. Shahan’s first grade classes both learned about community service in social studies. They decided to give to the Humane Society of Parkersburg after learning the impact they can make through donations.

Mrs. Scott’s Kindergarten class is having fun learning the scientific method through hands-on activities every Thursday. They make a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, discuss, draw and write about the outcomes.

Join 4-H and Find Your Spark!
4-H is open to youth ages 5 – 17 and young adults 18-21. Through 4-H, young people can discover and develop interests that will help them succeed in the future. Wood County has 12 community 4-H clubs including one just for teens to learn about leadership! Another special interest club is all about competitive shooting sports like archery, air rifle and more (age restrictions apply). Programs are also offered locally and statewide in leadership, career exploration, STEM, public speaking and more! 3rd-5th grade students in STEAM Lab have been researching, creating, testing and improving paper airplanes in the Amazing Airplanes unit. Each team built an “ultimate plane” and competed to be the Amazing Airplane Champs. The champs received 3-d printed medals. Congratulations to the All-Stars from Mrs. Athey’s class for winning first place!
Mrs. Wells’s first graders had fun learning about pets while engaging in a pet home stem building activity.

The theme for the week in Mrs. Shahan’s first grade is “pets”. The students were given a STEM assignment to build cages or habitats for their animals. Using boxes of random supplies, the first grade students built amazing projects!
Students in grades K-2 have been learning to solve 3-D puzzle challenges using KEVA Planks in STEAM Lab. They must build a structure by looking at pictures of a side view, top view, and front view.
Fall picture day is scheduled for October 11th. Picture order forms will go home October 5th. Reminder of upcoming picture day is being sent home this week. Have a great day!

This week, Mrs. Shahan’s first grade investigated apples. They talked about apple life cycles, made observations using their 5 senses, and learned about Johnny Appleseed.
Ms. Carden’s fourth graders have been studying geography, terraced gardens, landforms and time zones. Ms. Carden’s son, Dillon, called her students from Manchu Picchu, Peru, and shared the terraced gardens, the ruins, the mountains and even llamas. What a great learning opportunity!
