WCS Teaching & Learning Academy - Summer 2023 - Learn about all the amazing sessions and keynotes this summer! The Teaching and Learning Academy by Wood County Schools is all set to commence this July, offering a remarkable week of professional development and featuring noteworthy keynote speakers. Thursday is the final GSA test for grade 8. Grade 8 will be administering the Science portion of the state test. Students are encouraged to get a good nights sleep, eat breakfast and be on time for school. Classes begin at 8 am. Students should read and reread the test questions in an effort to check for understanding. Good luck students- we believe in you and know you will do a great job!

Wednesday, students will take the third state test assessment- Reading. It is important for students to get a good nights rest, eat breakfast and be on time for school. Classes begin at 8 am. Students are encouraged to read and reread the questions, take their time and do their best work. This will be the final test for grades 6 & 7. Show what you know!

Tuesday, students will take the second test in a series of General Summative Assessments (GSA) tests this week, otherwise known as state testing. Tuesday, Van Devender students will take the Writing assessment. Student may be assigned an argumentative or informational prompt to respond to in a written essay. It is important for students to get a good nights rest, eat breakfast and be on time for school. Classes begin at 8 am. Students are encouraged to take their time, read and reread the prompt, respond citing text evidence (cite your quotes, paraphrase, no plagiarism), check grammar, spelling punctuation and capitalization. Students should write a minimum of 5 paragraphs (an introductory paragraph/ hook, 3+ in the body and a closing paragraph). Parent or guardian, you can attend one of tonight’s Title 1 Parent Learning Academy sessions. 2:20-3:15 OR 6-7pm. Learn some fun academic skills and get freebies… in addition to having social probation lifted (up through today’s date).

The school was briefly placed on lockdown, though most students had already left for the day. The investigation found no credible threat. Wood County Schools takes all threats seriously and works with state and local authorities to investigate every report. Student and staff safety is our top priority.

This afternoon Wood County Schools received notice of a possible threat to Van Devender Middle School which was sent through the state See Send App. The school went into lockdown and Wood County Schools officials and area law enforcement responded immediately. An investigation found no credible threat and the lockdown was lifted. Wood County Schools takes all threats seriously and works with state and local authorities to investigate every report. Student and staff safety is our top priority.

The Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department in collaboration with Wood County Board of Education will be offering a school-based immunization clinic for students needing TDap and Meningitis vaccines. This clinic will be held on either May 2, or May 3 and will be offered to students currently in 6th grade. Parents are not required to be present for this clinic. However, completion of the consent form and screening questionnaire will be required before immunizations can be given. Insurance information is required, but no student will be turned away due lack of coverage or inability to pay. Please turn in all required forms to the school by April 28. Forms will be coming home with your student this Thursday.
