Open Enrollment begins at noon today (Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024). If you would like your child to attend a school outside of your current attendance zone, you must complete the online enrollment form. The link opens at noon today.

Wood County Schools' open enrollment process will change for the 2024-2025 school year. Although the form is simple to complete, if you feel you may need some assistance with the application process, or you do not have access to a device or the internet, all secretaries at our schools have an iPad and can assist you beginning at noon on Tuesday, January 16. If you child attends the school that corresponds to your home address, and you wish for this to continue, there is no action needed on your part.

Santa’s Helpers are ready! Students at Parkersburg South High School are accepting letters to Santa! All letters postmarked by Dec. 8 will receive a personalized response from Santa. Much appreciation to students in speech and debate, national honor society, journalism class, theater, as well as students in 10th grade ELA classes. They are volunteering their time for this project. This is the 8th year of the Letters to Santa program at Parkersburg South. Every year at this time we must fulfill a requirement of the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) of 1986. It is our responsibility to notify in writing, parents/legal guardian, school staff and employee organizations of the availability of the Asbestos Management Plan for each facility. Please find the notification information for your facility on Wood County Schools' web page.

Reminder, there is no school for students on Thursday, Oct. 26 (Parent-Teacher Conferences) or Friday, Oct. 27 (Professional Learning Day). Classes resume as normal on Monday, Oct. 30.

Please share! Parent Teacher Conference forms were sent home with students on Tuesday, October 17. Please complete and send back for your student’s teachers to schedule your requested times. Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October, 26. Parents: 1. Select the time frame you would like to schedule conferences. 2. Record the names of teachers you would like to meet with. 3. Send the paper back to school with your student to share with their teachers. 4. Teachers will indicate the time of the conference on your student’s paper. 5. Students will return the paper home to you. See you in October 26!

Parkersburg South High School students collected $472.90 to donate to the United Way. This was done during Spirit Week of Homecoming. Students also collected canned goods and other items for our school pantry. We are very proud of our student body for taking an active part in volunteerism and supporting our community needs. Promoting good citizenship is a top goal at South!

PSHS at the Jim Kessel Big Red Band Competition in Parkersburg, WV. PSHS Band swept their Class A awards- Percussion, Drum Major, Twirler, Color Guard, Music, Visual, and Overall Band. A few novice members of the Speaking Patriots started their Saturday morning quite early and competed in the Novice Speech and Debate season opener held at PHS. 🗣️ Congratulations to all who participated, and a special congratulations to junior, Sonnet Napier, for placing 2nd in Original Oratory and 3rd in Impromptu speaking. 🏆 Excellent work, Sonnet!

The Wood County Clerk's Office will be at PSHS tomorrow morning from 9 - 10:15 am. Students will be permitted to register to vote in the cafeteria. If a senior wants to register to vote, they need to bring a valid ID to present to verify age. Students may register if they are 17, and will be 18 in time to vote in the next general election on November 5, 2024. Students 17 years old may register and vote in primary elections, if they turn 18 before the next general election.

Wood County Schools is sponsoring a Vaping Prevention Poster Contest and a Video Contest giving students the opportunity to spread the message about the risks of vaping and nicotine addiction.
