In preparation of the Wood County Schools iPad distribution on August 31 - September 3, please take time to review the student acceptable use policy(AUP). Students who do not pick up an iPad August 31 – September 3 will be assigned an iPad on September 8 or September 9; however, the iPad will not be able to be taken home until both the student and parent/guardian signs the AUP.

Phone call on 7-30-20 On Tuesday, July 28, the Wood County Board of Education approved our draft re-entry plan to begin school on September 8th (Yellow stage for 3 weeks, 9-08 through 09-25). To view the draft plan, visit the Wood County Schools Webpage - click the menu button, then click 2020-2021 school re-entry information. Please understand, this is a draft plan that is fluid and will change as data is provided by our health care officials. If we do our part by wearing masks, staying social distanced, and practicing good hygiene, there is no doubt we will meet our target goal of going “green” - September 28. I know the yellow stage of our re-entry plan is an inconvenience for many, and I do apologize; however, we need to proceed cautiously, making sure all safety protocols are in place to keep our children and employees safe when re-entry occurs. Also, this is a reminder to please download the Wood County Schools app to your mobile device. The app is located on the webpage, and in the App store for Apple products and the Google play store for Android products. Good morning, last evening the Wood County BOE approved the revised 2020-2021 school calendar. The calendar can be found on our website at woodcountyschoolswv.com then click "menu" then "COVID -19". Also, the WCBOE approved our draft re-entry to school plan, which is subject to change as new guidelines are being established each day. The draft re-entry plan can be found on our website in the "News" feed. Please take time to review the re-entry plan and provide feedback so changes can be considered. As of tonight, Wood County Schools will begin school September 8 in the "yellow" phase and will continue in "yellow" for the first three (3) weeks. On September 21/22, after analyzing community data related to COVID-19, we will make an informed decision to hopefully go "green" (5 days) beginning Monday, September 28. Update - The WV State Superintendent of Schools recently approved the WCS proposed re-entry school calendar, which will need to be approved by our Board of Education before the calendar is finalized. As new information is received on re-entry and other items, I will continue to utilize this system to keep you informed. Good evening, To better prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Wood County Schools is seeking an accurate number of students who would like to participate in a full-time virtual school program.  Students would be a Wood County student choosing to take their classes online in a rigorous, web-based learning environment.  The virtual school teachers are West Virginia teachers teaching West Virginia content standards.  Students will still be able to participate in extracurricular (sports, clubs) and co-curricular activities (Band, ROTC) as would any other student.  This is not an easier pathway, but a different pathway to utilize during these uncertain times.  The program is for students in grades K -12 interested in a virtual school learning environment.  If interested in pursuing the virtual school option for your child, please visit our webpage woodcountyschoolswv.com, click “Menu”, “Parents and Students”, “Virtual School”. Good morning, I would like to take a second to provide an update on the WCS re-entry plan for the 2020-2021 School Year. We are in the final stages of completing our "rough draft" plan. Once the rough draft plan is complete, the document will be sent using our new mobile app, which will allow comments and feedback from our community and stakeholders. Also, as stated in the last message, School Calendar changes will be required. After the WCBOE meeting tonight, we will post a new draft calendar on our website and mobile app for you to peruse. Update - Last evening, the West Virginia Department of Education released a re-entry guidance document with many requirements counties must follow. Due to the recent announcement by our Governor not to reopen schools until September 8th, Wood County Schools is unable to release our re-entry schedule until further guidance can be obtained on start and end dates for our students and employees. Also, I fully expect school calendar changes to be made as a result of the announcement. I will keep stakeholders posted as information is received.

On Tuesday, July 14, after the Board of Education meeting, we will release our re-entry plan to the public. The plan is currently in the final stages of completion. Please be aware, the released plan can change very quickly with any directive from our local health officials, the Governor, or the West Virginia Department of Education. Message from Will Hosaflook, Superintendent of Wood County Schools, regarding an update about planning and preparation for school re-entry in August.     Parents, teachers, administrators, community members, and West Virginia Department of Ed officials are involved in developing multiple sets of plans to meet the requirements of the WVDE re-entry guidelines that were released last Thursday.    We plan to release a rough draft of Wood County’s re-entry plan to the community on July 14 through our new website and messaging platform.   On July 1, Wood County Schools will have a new app which provides consistent and up-to-date information to everyone. You can find the app by searching for Wood County Schools and selecting the app with the solid black background and silver W. It can be downloaded now!   Our goal is for students to be in school buildings, 5 days a week, this fall.  To make this happen, we need everyone’s help by following these health care guidelines:   Wearing masks when social distancing cannot be maintained, Cancelling travel plans to known Covid-19 hot spots,   Washing hands, and Avoiding large groups of people.   If Covid19 cases continue to increase, I am concerned that we will not be able to have students in school buildings 5 days per week.   I kindly ask you to follow the suggested guidelines to the best of your ability to help improve the health of everyone in our community and to help us reach our goal.   The guidelines may seem to be an inconvenience right now, but the long term benefit will be worth it.   Thank you for your support and effort in preventing the spread of Covid 19 in our district.   

Yesterday, the West Virginia Department of Education released a plan, including three scenarios for students to re-enter school in the fall. I want to be very clear, this is not the Wood County Schools plan for re-entry. Our goal in Wood County Schools is for students to physically be in school buildings five days a week, 180 days next school year. However, I am an educator by profession--not a certified health care official. The WVDE plan, as presented in the State Board meeting yesterday was a collaborative effort with Doctors Marsh and Slemp, along with many other professionals throughout the Nation. Whether we agree or disagree, West Virginia is still under a state of emergency, which gives the Governor the ultimate authority to issue directives to our educational system. When the state of emergency is lifted, local boards of education will use regional data regarding Covid-19 to make decisions for our school system. The state of emergency lift could happen as early as July 1, which would give local boards of education control to develop a new plan for re-entry using input from parents and community members like you Tomorrow evening, June 12, 2020, parents of Wood County Schools’ students will receive a telephone survey to gather your re-entry preference.
