Wood BOE meets Monday
PARKERSBURG - The Wood County Board of Education will meet Monday evening in regular session.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Jefferson Elementary Center at 1103 Plum Street in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public and will be streamed online.
The meeting will begin with a presentation of the Amy John Award by Amy Nahley with the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation.
The board will hold multiple recognitions, including ALEKS course completion, students completing i-Ready Math and/or Reading lessons, first place winners of the 2024 State Social Studies Fair, the winner of the Laura Tracy Baisden Award for Exemplary Teaching of Writing, the Boys & Girls Club Student of the Year, and Williamstown Middle High Schools Girls Basketball team as State Runner Up.
The board will receive presentations and funding requests from multiple organizations which receive money through the district’s excess levy. Those presenting are:
Artsbridge, by Lyndsay Dennis, Executive Director
YMCA by Ed Bohren, Interim Chief Executive Officer
Boys and Girls Club, by Lynn Reins, Chief Executive Officer
New Era School by Max Barker
WVU Extension Service, by Jodi Smith, Extension Agent/Associate Professor
Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library, by June Rhodes, Library Board Member
Vienna Public Library by Brenna Call, Director of Library Services
The board also will receive updates on a bond project website and county use of a central communications app.
In addition to personnel and financial items, the board will consider unpaid suspensions for two employees, paid administrative leave for an employee, and several items related to a Wood County Schools property in Mineral Wells.
