21st Century jobs require 21st Century skills. That is why Wood County Schools believes in the power of STEAM programs to give our students an academic boost as well as an educational advantage.

Wood County Schools offers STEAM programs in its schools as well as a dedicated STEAM Academy at the Caperton Center for Applied Technology for all seventh and eighth grade students.

So, what is a STEAM program?

STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. STEAM education develops these qualities and skills in students: embraces collaboration, learns experientially, persists in problem solving, works through the creative process, and takes thoughtful risks.

Our Students Collaborate

Working in teams, our students learn to collaborate to more quickly solve problems and achieve results. Collaboration allows everyone to share their unique strengths and contribute to the group as a whole. This collective sharing adds diversity of thought and perspective leading to better outcomes.

Caperton Center for Applied Technology

The center offers exception facilities for STEAM programs. Every seventh and eighth grade student has the opportunity to learn in a hands-on instructional setting.

Skills learned at the STEAM Academy work to develop the whole student and help students understand how they can be part of a team that is able to understand and solve complex challenges. These skills can be adapted to an increasingly dynamic and evolving workforce.
