Local School Improvement Council (LSIC)

Local School Improvement Councils (LSIC) are mandated by W.Va. Code § 18-5A-2 and are established in every public school across West Virginia. These councils consist of teachers, service personnel, bus drivers, parents, and representatives from local businesses and the community. Membership elections are held annually. The LSIC plays an active role in various aspects of school operations.

Each year, the LSIC reviews discipline data and procedures, providing written recommendations to the local school board. They foster school-community engagement through regular meetings and collaboration. By participating in strategic planning and promoting innovative ideas, they contribute to local school improvement efforts. Additionally, the LSIC maintains a direct connection with the local school board through an annual meeting, where they present and discuss key aspects of the school, including academics, athletics, discipline, school climate, facilities, needs, and recommendations for improvement.
