Sunday Night Phone Call

Sunday Night Announcement; 12/15/24

Good evening, Martin Ram families. This is Principal Tom Wheeler with a weekend update and a look at the week coming up.

As we begin this last week of the 2024 calendar year, know that, for the students, it is only a four-day week. Thursday, December 19th is the last day of school this week for the kiddos. Us grown ups still have to go to work on Friday, but for the kids, you get an early start to the holiday.

All this week is Spirit Week with a theme each day. Monday is Ugly Christmas Sweater or Shirt Day. Tuesday is the day to wear something red or green. Wednesday is Christmas Sock Day (or red or green socks if you don’t have Christmas socks) and Thursday is a kid-favorite, pajama day. Show your holiday spirit all this week.

The biggest event of this week, and by far one of my favorite events of the entire school year is the Martin Elementary Christmas program. That will take place tomorrow, Monday, December 16th at South Parkersburg Baptist Church, beside the campus of Parkersburg South High School, beginning at 6:00. Mrs. Walsh has asked the kids to be there by 5:50 at the latest. I can’t think of any better way to ring in the holiday that to listen to all of our talented kids singing Christmas songs. I hope you can join us.

On Tuesday, December 17th, our 4th graders are headed over to Blennerhassett Elementary to listen to a concert from the American Pops Orchestra. That’s always a fun trip.

On Wednesday, December 18th, our Intermediate grades will be doing their Christmas Around the World Celebration. Kids will travel to different classrooms to learn about Christmas customs from other countries. Part of that is to have an Australian style picnic lunch as it is the middle of summer in Australia. This has been a Martin tradition for a long time.

On Wednesday afternoon, our 2nd grade has a parent involvement activity going on. Look for information about that to come home with 2nd graders.

On Thursday, December 19th, my calendar says that it is Kindergarten Christmas Craft Day. Also a Martin tradition, the kids will spend their day doing all kinds of fun Christmas themed activities.

Thursday is also Christmas Party Day. Know that the parties will not all happen at the same time as each classroom has different schedules and activities planned. Look for details to come home with each grade level, including what time and what you can do to help out.

As we break for the Christmas and New Years holiday, know that you will not get another Sunday phone call from me until the evening of January 5th. This is a nice long break and kids don’t return to school until Monday, January 6th.

I want to close by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We appreciate all of our wonderful families and students.

And never forget…Martin Rams are always climbing.
