Sunday Night Phone Call

Sunday Night Announcement; 03/23/25

Good evening, Martin Ram families. This is Principal Tom Wheeler with a weekend update and a look at the week coming up.

One day last week, I was approached by two young ladies in our 2nd grade, Myla and Wrenley. They shared that they had been reading about tigers that are becoming extinct, and wanted to do something to help the tigers. Of course, they are in Mrs. Morris’ classroom, and if you know Mrs. Morris, or been in her classroom, you would understand why these girls are so concerned. Anyway, they asked if they could do something to raise money to help them. Starting tomorrow at both lunches, and continuing all week, Myla and Wrenley will be selling rubber-band bracelets and necklaces as well as ice cream treats to help support the tigers. Bring a dollar or perhaps a few quarters to school this week. Let’s all help these two young entrepreneurs as they help the tigers. It’s a pretty small investment and a great cause.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25th and March 26th, we will begin Martin Track practice for any student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade that wants to participate. Practice starts right after school and runs until 4:15. For those who are coming out, you will want to bring clothes and shoes comfortable for running and perhaps a snack and a drink.

On Thursday, March 27th is our Martin Elementary School Spelling Bee. That begins at 9:00 with our 2nd and 3rd grade spellers. Right after the conclusion of that one, it will be our 4th and 5th graders showing their spelling talents. Before Thursday, parents will know which kids have been selected to participate.

On Thursday evening, March 27th, a group of our 4th and 5th graders will be participating in the Elementary Music Festival at the Parkersburg High School Memorial Field House. I want to share some information about that for those who have a kid taking part. For parents, tickets must be purchased in advance as they will not be sold at the door. Tickets are $3.00 and can be purchase at school leading up to the program. The festivities start at 7:00, but we want the kids to be in the bleachers by 6:50 at the latest. Kids should arrive wearing their choir t-shirts and either jeans or black leggings. After the program is over, a parent needs to come to the gym floor to pick up their children. We will not release a student until we see your face and know that you are getting your child. Also, if you have never been to one of these before, know that this will be a full house, and parking will be a problem. You might want to get there early.

On Friday, we have our final group of our friends and neighbors from Fairplains Elementary coming for a visit when the 5th graders come to spend the day with us. As with all the others, there will be a swim party and activities, along with lunch and recess. Our Martin kiddos and staff have done a great job of making the Fairplains folks feel welcome.

We wrap up the week with a musical program compliments of our 2nd and 3rd graders. They will be entertaining with a selection of songs with a baseball theme in a program called “It’s a Hit!” That will take place on Friday, March 28th at 2:00 in the school gym.

Finally, let me remind you that after this week, everybody gets a week off as Spring Break runs from March 31st through April 4th. School resumes on a normal schedule on Monday, April 7th. Because of no school next week, you will not be getting another one of these phone calls until Sunday, April 6th. In the meantime, I hope you have a fabulous break.

That’s everything on my desk this week. Thanks for listening and I will see you in the morning.

And remember, Martin Rams are Always Climbing!
