The HMS LSIC will hold two community meetings in April to give our stakeholders a chance to discuss our school's academic performance and to invite any ideas and suggestions for improvement. The first meeting is scheduled for April 7, 2022 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the HMS Gym. The second meeting is scheduled for April 12, 2022 from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM in the HMS Gym.

NEW LOCATION! The Wood County Schools' Social Studies Fair on Saturday, February 19th, will now take place at Williamstown High School. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Judging is from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Public viewing begins at 5:00 p.m. Awards will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Based upon our internet access survey this past September, Wood County Schools has secured Wi-Fi hotspots for those who have a need and have no or unreliable internet. If you have a child who attends any Wood County Schools’ high school or middle school, you may pick up a Wi-Fi hotspot at our Management Information Systems building located adjacent to Parkersburg South High School. The address is 1600 Beverly Street. A map can be found on the Wood County Schools’ website. Pickup dates are tomorrow, Friday and Monday from eight to four. It is not necessary to call ahead. Hotspots for elementary students, who have a need and have no or unreliable internet, will be available soon. Information will be forthcoming.
Due to inclement weather, the county social studies fair has been rescheduled to Saturday, February 19.

Congratulations to our Girls Cross Country Team who won the county championship. Anthony Justice placed 6th overall, but we had seven runners finish in the top twenty and our pack running held off the competition for the win.
Free after school tutoring is available for any HMS student every Monday through Thursday from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Three HMS teachers are available every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday when school is in session. Students may simply report to one of the tutoring rooms at the end of the day. Parents and guardians may also call the school at 304-420-9547 to let us know that you want your child to stay after school for tutoring.
HMS is pleased to announce that after school tutoring for any student will begin next Monday, September 27. You may purchase pictures by returning a picture packet order with payment, or you may purchase your pictures online. Good evening. Tomorrow brings much anticipation with the start of a new school year. I am so excited to see our students and employees back in our buildings as we work together to become the # 1 school district in the state of West Virginia. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful community of parents and guardians that understand the importance of a first-class education and are willing to go above and beyond to ensure the success of our students and schools. However, we know there is a lot of work to complete.
This summer, WCS has equipped schools with essential personnel for targeted intervention, created a STEAM Academy for middle school students, and continued to upgrade our facilities to provide the most conducive environments possible in our schools. We are very excited to see the new school year begin.

I will do my best to communicate changes to you as directives are received. I encourage all parents and students to follow the recommendations in the guidance document including, but not limited to - wearing a mask, staying socially distanced, and practicing good, hand-washing hygiene.

Thursday August 19, 2021 is the first day of school! The entire staff of HMS is looking forward to the new school year. We are especially fortunate to have new windows and new air conditioning installed over the summer. Our school looks great and your classrooms will be more comfortable than ever.
